Autism and Special Needs
Improving the Care and Experience for Patients and Families
The unique developmental and behavioral concerns of children on the autism spectrum and those with similar special needs present a variety of challenges for medical providers and teams at Children’s Minnesota. This added complexity can complicate visits, lead to less desirable health outcomes and decreased patient and family satisfaction. The goal of this program is to improve the quality of experiences for children with autism and special needs when receiving care at Children’s Minnesota. By partnering with the Autism Society of Minnesota (AusM), clinical staff will be trained in practical techniques and be provided with resources which will allow them to better anticipate and manage the common challenges encountered when working with these children. Improved staff competency will lead to decreased complications in the care of those on the Autism Spectrum and help Children’s become more of an essential partner in ensuring better health outcomes for these children and families.
