Midwest Children's Resource Center (MCRC)
MCRC, as a child advocacy center (CAC) and hospital-based clinic, proves specialized medical evaluations and case management in alleged child abuse cases, serious neglect, witness to violence, and provides training.
With the financial support from CHA, MCRC was established in 1986. MCRC has led the way for the hospital-based interdisciplinary approach to child maltreatment. Much of the vital work done at MCRC has been possible because of the generous and consistent support from Children's Hospital Association.
The program at MCRC has many components. It is a medical clinic under the auspices of Children's Hospital, and also a child advocacy center (CAC) , governed by standards under the National Children's Alliance (NCA). MCRC has been an accredited member of NCA as a child advocacy center since 1994. As a CAC, MCRC works with the community, primarily Ramsey County, to provide a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach to working with child abuse. The CAC model promotes an integrated, multidisciplinary, child-friendly approach to the investigation and treatment of child sexual abuse. At the heart of the model is the multidisciplinary team of professionals with expertise in medicine, mental health services, child protection, law enforcement, prosecution, victim advocacy and the child advocacy center.
